about clive

Originally born in England, I have been fortunate to have lived, studied and worked in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand; where I now consider home.

I’ve spent several decades working for private and government organisations.  For the majority of my working life, I felt the need to become more responsible for my own choices.  In searching for something more meaningful, I reassessed my career and reflected deeply on ‘what was it that made me get out of bed’.

After some soul-searching, I realised that it was working with people.  I loved building, enhancing and repairing relationships. Having studied some counselling theory in Australia, I returned to New Zealand where I completed a postgraduate counselling qualification in 2015.  Since that time, I’ve also worked with youth and also completed a postgraduate teaching diploma in 2018.

I have met people from many different walks of life and culture.  I have come to the realisation that within each and everyone is a desire to be heard and understood.

For any useful counselling work to occur, there needs to be a connection or rapport.  On this journey, I’ve continued to study various techniques and appreciate that they all have their validity.  However, it’s through genuine connection that clients can feel safe enough to express their vulnerability.  This, for me, is where the healing journey begins.
